Elsie Mae (Herring) Arnold, 94, of Middletown, wife of the late Andrew Arnold, passed away on June 26, 2026, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Duplin County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Gracie (Chambers) Herring.
Elsie lived in Middletown since 1961 and was employed at Raymond Engineering for 25 years, One Hour Morten Dry Cleaning for 3 years, and Best Cleaners for 6 years. Elsie was a volunteer for North End Action Team (N.E.A.T) on Green Street. Elsie endeared everyone and everyone called her Grandma.
Elsie is survived by four daughters Laura Hall of Middletown, Paula Best of North Carolina, Gail Cunningham of Middletown and Ruth Herring of North Carolina; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Elsie was predeceased by her son Richard S. Herring, four brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at 11:00 am at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown. A burial will follow in Indian Hill Cemetery.
