Eleanor Marie (Johnson) Duey

Eleanor "Ellie" Johnson Duey, 84, of Cromwell, Connecticut, passed away on September 14, 2024.  Born on September 9, 1940, in West Hartford, Connecticut, Ellie was the cherished daughter of the late John A. and Bertha M. (Bergstrom) Johnson who imbued in their daughter a strong pride in their Swedish heritage that she maintained and shared throughout her life.

Ellie graduated from Conard High School in 1958 and Bay Path Junior College in 1960. Known for her caring and outgoing personality, she was a wonderful mother, step-mother, grandmother and friend. She took great pleasure in entertaining and planning for gatherings of family and friends.

Following her graduation and until retirement, she worked at Pratt & Whitney, King Philip Middle School, Eversource, and the East Coast Conference of Covenant Churches.

Ellie married William Peterson in 1962 and started a family, welcoming her daughters Jeanne in 1965 and Karen in 1969.  She remarried in 1978, and she and Charles Duey were happily married for 40 years until his death in 2018. As they blended families, she became step-mother to his three grown children, Cheryl, John and Craig, and treasured her relationships with them. Her hobbies included church activities, traveling, sewing, reading, and cooking/baking for family and friends.

Ellie is survived by her loving family, including her sister, Betty Johnson; daughters, Karen McNamara and Jeanne Zieger (Steve); step-children Cheryl Duey (Jim Ingala), C. John Duey, Jr. (Tara Webb Duey), and Craig Duey (Bonny Lynch), 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews in the US and in Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Duey and her son-in-law, Mark McNamara.
