Middletown, CT – After an almost 11 year separation, Jean and Eddie Hunt will be reunited on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 2:00pm, as they are jointly laid to rest in a graveside memorial service at the State Veterans’ Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Full military honors will be accorded for Ed’s military service in the US Army, Korea Company K, 169th Infantry and the Connecticut National Guard, discharged in June 1952.
Jean was born in Essex on January 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Albert and Isabelle Palau. She proudly earned her Registered Nurse degree from Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and used that education throughout her full-time tenure at Middlesex Memorial Hospital from 1960-1987. Jean worked primarily in the emergency room setting and served as the hospital’s Evening Shift Nursing Supervisor. Jean passed from this life earlier this year on May 27, 2023, having spent her last years in Rocky Hill.
Eddie was born in Middletown on July 12, 1928, the son of the late Adelbert and Sarah Hunt. After his military service, he became a Middletown fireman, rising through the ranks to become a Senior Firefighter at the time of his retirement in 1987, and serving as President of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1073. Ed passed away in Bostwick, FL on July 17, 2012.
Despite their hectic career paths (or maybe because of them), Jean and Ed found time to enjoy the camping lifestyle. They travelled all over the Northeast including Canada and loved their weekend camping trips with their friends in the Mattabesset Camping Club. Spare moments found Jean crafting, sewing, basket-weaving, and painting nature scenes in acrylics, while Ed maintained his pristine yard, taking time off only for Sunday afternoon football games. They relocated in the early 1990s to Bostwick, FL but travelled up and down the east coast corridor to spend the summer and early fall months in Connecticut.
Jean and Ed are survived by two sons, Timothy E. Hunt (wife Ruth) of Fort McCoy, FL, and Richard A. Hunt (wife Julie) of Middletown; two daughters, Linda E. Wilson (husband Richard) of Mahaffey, PA, and Trisha A. Hunt of Middletown; Jean’s sister, Carol Ekstrom of Merrimack, NH; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. (Jean was predeceased by one granddaughter).
