Edward Welshock Obituary

Edward Welshock, age 80, of Mystic, CT, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Moodus, CT, in 1945 to Joseph and Julia Kopera Welshock, Edward grew up with a strong sense of family and community. He attended Nathan Hale-Ray High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during wartime, stationed aboard the USS Chilton and USS Shadwell. After his military service, Edward dedicated over 40 years to his career as a hardworking lumber salesman. He also briefly ventured into the gaming industry as part of Foxwood’s inaugural Craps Dealer class of 1992 before retiring from Ring’s End in 2010.

Edward was known for his larger-than-life personality and sharp, mathematical-mind. He was passionate about clamming, playing tennis, and dominating at "Florida Rummy." His backyard gatherings were legendary, filled with laughter, music from his iconic 1962 Juke Box, and spirited games of foosball and beanbags. A talented cook, Edward delighted friends and family with his signature New England Clam Chowder, secret-recipe Polish Pickles, and perfectly crispy French Fries.

Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Welshock. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Claire Welshock; his loving daughters, Elizabeth Welshock and Shelly Sharples; and his cherished grandchildren, Michael Sharples, Sydney Lojek, and Chase Lojek.

A memorial service to celebrate Edward’s life will be held on Monday, March 23, at 12 p.m. at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Edward’s name to the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut (https://charity.pledgeit.org/EFCT).

Edward’s warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
