Edward Schilke, Jr., 79, of Middletown, beloved husband of Joanne (Pernice) Schilke, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2022, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Middletown, he was the son of Edward, Sr. and Martha (Schroeder) Schilke and was predeceased by his sister Susan E. Todd. After graduating Woodrow Wilson High School, Ed began working at Schilke’s Service Station, a business established by his father in 1922. He later became manager of the power plant at Connecticut Valley Hospital.
Ed was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, St. John’s Masonic Grand Lodge #2 AF, Sphinx Shriners including the False Alarmers and the Caravan Club, Valley of Hartford Scottish Rite Freemasons, Melha Shriners in Massachusetts, the Elks, was on the Board of Directors of Pine Grove Cemetery, and was a Lieutenant in the Army National Guard.
An avid outdoorsman, Ed enjoyed playing golf, boating, fishing, traveling, and learning to fly. He was fun loving, felt at home on the water, and was always there to lend a helping hand.
He leaves his wife Joanne (Pernice) of 56 years, daughters Karyn Schilke (Jacquelyn Groeper) and Beth Kilian (John Kilian) and his grandchildren Caroline, Kathryn and Jack Kilian.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 10:00am. Burial service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
