Edmund McRae, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2023. A lifelong resident of Middletown, he was the oldest son of Edmond and Bertha McRae. After serving and being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, Ed held many jobs: a worker at Pratt & Whitney, later the Post Office, and eventually the DMV for 27 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant as an Inspector. As a servant of the city, he was a member of the Housing Authority, Democratic Town Committee, and the Interstate Police Association.
As a close-knit family, Ed enjoyed the company of his sisters and brothers. He enjoyed traveling with Willard up and down the East coast visiting family, eating, and laughing with sister Thelma, and sharing a residence with Irving and family.
Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife, Lessie, sisters Thelma (Riley) and Vivian (Wesley), and brothers Irving and Willard.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, many close friends, sisters-in-law Katherine McRae and Althea McRae, and his dear friend, Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11 at 11:00am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Family and friends may call from 10:00-11:00am before the service. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.
