Edith “Edie” Mary (Waldner) Payne, 84, of Middletown, wife of the late John A. Payne, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Edith (Zetterholm) Waldner.
Edie lived in Middletown all of her life. She graduated Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1954 and the Ona M. Wilcox School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over thirty years at Middlesex Hospital, Cromwell Crest, Wadsworth Glen and private nursing. Edie loved to play setback, croquet, attend family picnics, follow baseball and golf and play a mean game of badminton. Most of all, Edie loved her family and friends.
Edie is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Payne and her partner Thomas Dyer of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Edie was predeceased by three brothers, Clarence, William and Edward Waldner and a sister, Anna Magetteri.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Middlesex Hospital Emergency Department and the Weiss Hospice Unit for their wonderful care.
Family and friends may call on Thursday evening, April 8th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown where masks and social distancing are required.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 9 at 12:00 pm in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
