Edith (Johnson) McKnight

Edith (Johnson) McKnight, 80, of Cromwell, CT passed away peacefully on July 22, 2020 at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness. Edie was the daughter of the late C. Harry and E. Viola (Anderson) Johnson, formerly of Cromwell.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, John (Jack) McKnight of Cromwell, her son William and his wife Tracey McKnight of Wallingford, her grandsons Kevin McKnight and his girlfriend Savannah Davis of Portland, Daniel McKnight of Cromwell, and Daniel Jakiela-Evon of Wallingford and former daughter-in-law, Lori Ouellette and her husband Rodney of Cromwell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son Kevin A. McKnight.
Edie began her career at Middletown Savings Bank after graduating from Middletown High School in 1957 where she stayed for 15 years deciding to leave in 1972 shortly after the birth of her second son Bill. She returned in 1983 going to work at Farmers and Mechanics Bank in Cromwell where she stayed until 2009 finally retiring from Citizens Bank after a career spanning 41 years. During this career, Edie made so many friends in Cromwell that even as she got older; she had the ability to remember everyone who had come in to the bank over the years. She leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, compassion and friendship to so many that is unmatched.
Edie and Jack enjoyed many trips to Ogunquit, ME, numerous times, some with their grandchildren in tow as well as countless trips to the Connecticut casinos and UCONN Huskies basketball.
Family and friends may call on Monday evening, July 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell with the following mandates to be adhered to due to COVID 19, masks and six feet social distancing is required, in addition, keeping visiting to a minimum in consideration of the restricted amount of people allowed in the funeral home at one time. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 10:00 am in Cromwell Hillside Cemetery West, 29 Hillside Road, Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Cromwell Professional Firefighters Local 4662, PO Box 43, Cromwell, CT 06416 or to Middlesex Hospital Hospice Unit, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
