Edith Kabatznick Obituary

Edith Kaplan Kabatznick passed away peacefully with her loving and devoted daughter Gloria by her side on July 1, 2018 after 97 years of incredibleness.  She was born in West Haven Connecticut on March 8, 1921 to Morris and Fannie (Jacobs) Kaplan.   On February 15, 1942, she married Abner Kabatznick of Middletown and enjoyed a rewarding, loving forty-two year marriage until Abner’s death in 1984.  After staying home to raise her family, she worked part time for the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce.  Edith assumed a new role in the Finance Department as Payroll and Insurance Specialist for the City of Middletown a position she held for twenty-one years.  Her brother Harold fondly coined her, the “first Google Search Engine,” as everyone in City Hall admired her and knew to ask Edith about any question on any topic.

Edith was a member of Congregation Adath Israel Synagogue where she was involved in the Sisterhood, Stitchery Group, Hadassah and B’nai Brith. Edith also volunteered at Middlesex Hospital for twenty years.

Edith is survived by three children, Gloria Sones, Marvin Kabatznick, and Amy Mulderig with spouses Mary Moran and John Mulderig.  Edith was immensely proud of her three grandchildren, David Sones, Robert Sones, Andrew Kabatznick, and his wife Elizabeth Gausden and a step grandson, John Mulderig.  Her great grandchildren, Alex and Aiden Sones gave her immense pleasure in her latter years.  Close to her heart were her loyal and loving siblings, William and Tilly Kaplan (pre-deceased), Shirley and (the late) Elliot Fleischer, and Harold and Dorothy Kaplan.   Leon Kabatznick, Herbert and Rose Kabatznick, Norman and Minna Kabatznick and Esther Kabatznick, Abner’s siblings, all pre-deceased, were like her own and rounded out an incredibly close knit family.   A cadre of remarkable support and devotion came from her numerous nieces and nephews who showered her with love and attention from all over the globe.

Edith had a wonderfully healthy and refreshing outlook on life. How many 97 year olds boast two Facebook accounts. Edith will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness, her inner and outer beauty, her quick wit, her story telling, her incredible attention to detail, her great advice and her boundless love. Family and friends were her riches and her cup runneth over.   Edith went restfully and knew how much she was loved.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 11:00 am at Congregation Adath Israel Synagogue.  Burial will follow Adath Israel Cemetery.  Please omit flowers.
