Dorothy Kycia Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Comstock) Kycia, beloved wife of Michael A. Kycia, passed away peacefully August 12, 2025. Dotty was born in Winsted, Connecticut, on December 30, 1934, to William E. and Dorothy (Smith) Comstock. The second of three daughters, Dotty graduated from East Hartford High School in 1952 and went to work at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford as an engineering assistant. It was there that she met her future husband, Mike, and the two were married on February 9, 1956. They settled in Glastonbury and spent their summers on Lake Dunmore in Vermont, Glastonbury Hills, and trekking around the country with their Apache camper. Dotty enjoyed baking and knitting and never lost her love of long distance swimming. Dotty was an accomplished seamstress who designed and created beautiful gowns for proms and weddings. She served on the Altar Guild of St. Augustine’s Church in South Glastonbury for many years. In their later years, Mike and Dot divided their time between Vermont, Glastonbury, Naples, FL, and eventually Silver City, NM.

Besides her husband of almost 70 years, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Barron, and her husband, Cliff, of Suffield, Connecticut, their two sons, Mickey, of Boston, MA, and Andy, also of Suffield, and her two granddaughters, Autumn Menard and her wife Angie, of Porto, Portugal, and Grace Bustamante, of Tucson, AZ.

In addition to her two sisters, Barbara and Cynthia, Dorothy was predeceased by her two sons, Mark and Thomas, and her daughter, Nancy Kycia-Siwik.
