Doreen Margaret (Armstrong) Pratt

Doreen Margaret (Armstrong) Pratt, 91, of Cromwell, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Monday, June 7, 2021, at Pilgrim Manor.  Born in York Township, Toronto, Canada on May 23, 1930, she was the daughter of Russell and Margaret (Chambers) Armstrong.

Doreen resided in Cromwell over the past fifty years, was a member of First Congregational Church in Cromwell and was active in numerous clubs, church functions, charitable events and volunteering.  Doreen loved to travel the country with family, friends and members of the Charter Oak Photography Club.  She had a keen eye for photography capturing the beauty of flowers, wildlife, and as she described “Gods magnificent landscapes”.  Doreen loved shooting the lighthouses on the New England Coast including her favorite Pemiquid, and would climb out onto the rocks for that perfect shot. She loved the ocean. Having a passion for music, she played piano from a young age, sang in the church choir, participated in and attended concerts and loved to dance.  She enjoyed knitting, Zentangle, Wii bowling, playing pinochle and was an avid UConn Husky girls’ basketball fan.  Doreen worked many years as secretary and assistant to Dr. Bank of Middletown, later retiring as assistant to the principle of Middletown High School. She was a beloved fiancé, wife, mom, grandmother, friend, and confidant to many.

Doreen is survived by her loving daughter, Laura (Pratt) Hale, her grandchildren Deanna, Kelsey, Thomas and their father a special friend and birthday buddy Tom Hale, her great grandson Dominic who she adored, stepdaughters Betsy Pratt Lowe and Jane Davis, their children and grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephew.

Along with her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her fiancé Irving “Bud” Chappell, and her husband A. Myron Pratt.
