Derrick Harris Obituary

Derrick Harris, 50, of Middletown passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 28, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was a lifelong resident of Middletown born on November 13, 1970 to the late Leon and Elsie (Weaver) Harris.  He was the youngest of four children.

Derrick was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in his youth and was baptized as a member there.  He always said “Even though I don’t attend church, I still Pray every day”. Derrick was educated in the Middletown School system.  After graduation he found employment with Dattco Bus Company.  He was a dedicated employee for 14 years.

In his spare time Derrick cheered on the Dallas Cowboys.  He was a true diehard Cowboys fan.  Derrick is also known as the music man among his friends and family.  He loved all types of music, but the 70’s era was his favorite.   When listening to gospel music his favorite gospel singer was Sam Cooke.  He loved to listen to “Be with me Jesus and Wonderful”

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life Laurie McNeil; three siblings Sharon, Leon and Karen; his best friend of 40 years whom he also considered a brother Keith Murphy; his nieces Amber Turner, whom he loved as if she were his daughter, Kacie, Tonie and Piper Harris; and his aunts Anne Hart, Lilly Pickard, and Norma Weaver, and uncles along with a host of friends and relatives.

We love you Derrick, but God loves you more.

Dallas Cowboys forever!!!

The Harris family would like to say a special thank you to Fresenius Kidney Care in Southington CT and to the nurses and support staff at Middlesex Hospital.
