David Cooper, Jr. Obituary

David O. Cooper, Jr., 87, passed away on March 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 31, 1937, to the late David O. Cooper Sr. and Estelle (Johnson) Cooper in Middletown, Connecticut.

He joined the Airforce after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955. He was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. On May 18, 1963, he married the love of his life Mary Lou Steele.

David was dedicated to his family, his friends, and the people he served as a union representative at Pratt and Whitney, the AFSCME Council 4, in his church and in his community. He loved to cook, fish, golf, and a good debate. He was a peacemaker, treat-master, storyteller who enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Middletown and his time in the service, and was a strong shoulder to lean on in times of trouble.

David is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Lou, his brother, Arthur Cooper (Linda), of Arizona, and daughters Lisa Cooper and Lynn Cooper Edwards of Middletown, grandchildren Lisa Marie Spievey (Amari), Yasmin Rabassa (Anthony) of Middletown, David A. Cooper of New York, Maria Johnson (Walter) of Washington, Lahna Edwards of Middletown, Nanichi Cedeno of Oregon, and Guanin Cedeno of Middletown. Seven great grandchildren, Samiya, Alaia, Lonzell Jr., Isabela, Peyton, Micah, and Yuiza, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and dear friends.

He was met at The Gate by his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and his parents, his sisters Laura Alexander, Carolyn Hatcher, and Ruby Cooper and his brothers Penny Walker and Herman Cooper.

The family is thankful for the prayers and kindness shown throughout this difficult time and would like to say a special thank you to the Middlesex Hospice Services for their care and support.
