David Berwick Obituary

David Andrew Berwick, son of Dr. Philip Berwick and Denise M. Berwick passed suddenly Monday morning July 25, 2022 at Middlesex Memorial Hospital after being taken there by ambulance from his home in Hadlyme Connecticut. It was two days before his 65th birthday.

Left behind was the love of his life, Nancy Fulton and his brothers David B. Berwick, Robert Berwick and Donald Berwick, all of Massachusetts. David also left many friends, colleagues and collaborators from a life lived in several states.

Born July 27, 1957 in Memphis Tennessee, David moved to Moodus Connecticut with his mother Denise to join the Berwick family in 1963. He loved our home and wooded land, spending much of his time playing basketball in the driveway with his brother David and many mutual friends.

After a time, he picked up guitar and became a skilled and proficient musician, playing along with the hits of the 60’s and 70’s in the family living room and basement. Most recently he added songwriter to his musical resume. He was really good.

Following the passing of his Mother Denise in 1981 David moved back to Memphis for a considerable time and married Becky Creed whom he later divorced. He then spent several years in Mississippi working at a Casino as a Slot Machine Shift Manager before moving to Hadlyme in 2017 to be with Nancy.

David loved a good debate and could hold his ground on many subjects following his substantial research on any particular subject. He’d have been a formidable attorney. Be it politics, the law or the general behavior of people, David thrived in the discussion. And he had an hilarious sense of humor, finding the absurdities in so many life situations.

He loved animals, in particular cats and horses. And so, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Rays of Light, 232 Town Street, East Haddam, CT 06423 or to the Haddam Animal Rescue c/o Sue Kautz, 3 Beckwith Road, Haddam, CT 06438.

When he met you, he never forgot you and considered you a friend. In the Jewish tradition, may his memory be for a blessing.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in the fall. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.doolittlefuneralservice.com .
