Charity Mathias Obituary

Charity Marie Mathias, 83, of Cromwell, passed away on April 7, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital.  Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late James and Charity (Wilson) Mathias.

Charity lived in Cromwell since 2016 moving from Wethersfield.  She was a member of Saint John Church in Cromwell.  Charity was a graduate of Saint Joseph College, West Hartford.  She taught at both high school and college levels for many years. She was very active in the Cromwell Senior Center participating in and directing plays that entertained members for several years.

Charity’s laughter and love of life were inspiration to all and will be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Charity is survived by two brothers, James F. Mathias, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of East Hampton, CT and George R. Mathias of Boise, Idaho and several nieces and nephews whom she loved spending time with.  She always treated them to little unique gifts in which they truly appreciated and will be forever grateful for her love and generosity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 25th at 10:00 am at Saint John Church, 5 Saint John Court, Cromwell.  A burial will follow in Wethersfield Village Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Charity’s memory may be made to the Family Institute of Connecticut, 77 Buckingham Street, Hartford, CT 06106.  Cromwell Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
