Cecilia Lily (Hoskins) Stevens, 99, of Bloomfield, peacefully entered eternal rest with her loving daughter, Lori by her side on June 1, 2025. Born in Milo, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Ned and Cecilia (Poulin) Hoskins and the wife of the late Melvin Stevens for sixty-four years.
Ceil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartford where she sang in the choir and served as President of the United Methodist Women and several other committees.
Ceil helped start the teacher aide program in Bloomfield and later became a certified paraprofessional. She worked in the reading lab teaching first grade children to read, retiring at the age of 81. She was a life member of Welcome Rebekah Lodge # 47 IOOF and served as their Chaplin, Noble Grand, District Deputy President and Soloist for their assemblies. Ceil and Mel spent years travelling in their RV spending many summers in Maine. She enjoyed reading, writing, composing poems, puzzles and playing Candy Crush reaching level 6700.
Ceil is survived by two daughters, Carol Fisher AKA Kyle Murray of Wethersfield and Lori Dutko of Meriden; a son Paul E. Stevens of Simsbury; nine grandchildren Michael Dutko and his wife Christy, Peter Dutko, Brian Dutko and his wife Laura, Gary Johnson, and Brenden Johnson and his wife Jennifer, Marie Columna, Christian Johnson, Matthews Stevens and his partner Rayah Martin and Jessica LaMothe; sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Ceil was predeceased by three brothers, Jerry, Harold and George Hoskins and a sister, June Nelson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 10:30 am at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield. Family and friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
