Brian Francis Murray

January 28, 1938 – February 28, 2020

Brian passed away peacefully on February 28, 2020 at the Water’s Edge Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a brief battle with cancer. Brian was a Middletown, CT resident for more than 50 years and worked at the Connecticut State Hospital, helping patients stay active and fit until he retired in the mid 1990s.

Born and raised in Bangor, Maine, Brian spent his young life as an accomplished student and basketball player ranking as a top player at his high school, John Bapst High School, and in the state of Maine.  Brian is a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was stationed in Europe for four years. He attended the University of Connecticut upon his return to the US and settled in Middletown. Brian never married.

The eldest of two sons, Brian was born into a small Irish-Catholic family with hardworking parents. He is predeceased by his parents Mary (nee McMahon) and Francis Murray, and by his younger brother, Francis “Frank”, who passed recently on November 30th, 2019 in Nova Scotia Canada. Though living in different countries, Brian remained close with Frank and his wife, Nancy Sue Sweeney (passed 2015). Brian is survived by his brother Frank’s son, his only nephew, Brian Joseph Murray, who lives in Nova Scotia, Canada with his wife Jayne.

Brian will be remembered as a man of faith, an intellectual and someone who was passionate about music, politics, health and Catholicism. His philanthropic nature and caring generosity has benefitted numerous people and charities throughout his lifetime.

By his request, there will be no service and Brian will be interred at the State Veteran’s Cemetery, Middletown, CT where his military stone will read, “Life is Precious.”  In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to a local food bank of the donor’s choice.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
