Bernice G. Hurlbut, 86, of Cromwell and more recently Middletown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
Bernice was born on January 30, 1934 to the late John and Marion Ganges in Hudson, New York. After graduating from East Hartford High School in 1951, she worked as an Insurance Customer Service Representative and throughout the years held various jobs all working with the public including one of her favorites, The Lord Cromwell. She was also passionate about her volunteering and helping the less fortunate.
Her proudest accomplishment came in the form of her three children, Jimmy, Nancy, and Steve. Watching her children grow up and lead exciting, successful lives, further expanding her loving family, brought her tremendous joy and comfort.
Bernice had a great love of being outdoors, spending time camping, traveling and generally exploring any chance she could get. She was also an avid walker and loved dancing and roller skating. She shared many of these passions with her children and more recently with her grandchildren, providing them with lifelong memories of fun and adventure.
Bernice was predeceased by her brother Sam and sister Helen. She is survived by her children James Hurlbut of Middletown, Nancy Nevins of Berlin, Steven Hurlbut and his wife Rohini of Tolland, and her brother Joe Ganges of Phoenix, Arizona. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jason Hurlbut and his wife Annelise, Edward Nevins and his wife Kaitlyn, Matthew Nevins and his wife Shay, Nicholas Nevins, Gabrielle Hurlbut, Alyssa Hurlbut, and Natalie Hurlbut, as well as three great grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Water’s Edge Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Middletown for their loving support of Bernice during the past several months.
