It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin F. Butler Jr., who went to be with the Lord peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the age of 88.  Born in New Haven, CT on October 7, 1937, to the late Benjamin Sr. and Anna Butler, Ben lived a life dedicated to service, family, and faith.

Ben was a rock for his family and his community. As a devoted husband to Valerie L. Butler for 68 years, and a loving father, he set an example of integrity and dedication. For 34 years, he served as a dedicated and heroic public servant, throughout his distinguished career for the City of New Haven as a firefighter, he earned numerous Meritorious Citations for his bravery both on and off duty. When not fighting fires, Ben also worked as a licensed electrician.

Ben was an avid golfer who loved traveling to many states to play the game with the New Haven Fire Department Golf League, above all, he was a devoted family man and a long-time member of Victory Church in Middlefield, CT.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his beloved daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Powers, Marilyn (Raymond) Powers, and Susie (Art) Lazzari. He was a loving grandfather to Steven (April) Ricci, Brendan (Cassandra) Ricci, M.J. Powers, Raymond (Stephanie) Powers, Kyle (Loren) Powers, Philip (Chrystal) Powers, Tyler Powers, Kayla (Josh) Jackson, and Adrianna Lazzari. He also leaves behind many beloved great-grandchildren, Isabella Ricci, Sinha Kishore, Luna Powers, Juniper Powers, and Knox Jackson taking pride in every new addition to his family.

Ben was predeceased by his daughter, Bonnie Bartram; son-in-law, Donld Bartram; grandson, Robert Butler; and his three brothers, James, George, and William Butler.
