Selner, Arland “Arl”, 77, of Middletown, husband of Patricia (Popielarz) Selner, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Siebert) Selner and Arthur Selner.
Arl is a graduate of Berlin High School and attended Paul Smith’s College in New York. He served in the United States Army recognized with multiple service medals for his time in Vietnam, and as an Expert Rifleman. He was a long-time employee of Connwood Foresters, Inc., until his retirement. Arl was an active outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting, enjoyed his gardens of flowers and vegetables, having one of his dogs by his side, he worked hard, always up for a visit and to talk, and usually made those around him laugh with all his sayings, banter, expressions, and stories.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sarah (Selner) Tierney and John of East Hampton, Lisa Selner of Albuquerque, NM, and grandsons Mason and Connor Tierney. Arl also leaves his sister, Babette Wrobel and husband John, sister-in-law Betsy Selner, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Clyde Selner.
Family and friends may pay their respect on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, between 11:00am-12:30pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street in Middletown, CT. A graveside service will take place at 1:00pm at the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.
