Archibald Cameron Obituary

Archibald “Scotty” Cameron, 96, of Middletown, husband of Evelyn (Hanson) Cameron for nearly seventy-one years, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018.  Born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 26, 1921, he was the son of the late David and Sarah (Mawhirt) Cameron. Scotty’s family moved to the United States when he was a child.

Scotty served in World War II in the Army Air Corps.  After his military discharge, Scotty worked at Standard Knapp as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1983 after forty-three years of service.  He was a long time member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, the American Legion Post # 75, IAM Lodge #782 and AARP #3310.  Scotty was an avid golfer belonging to the Portland Senior Golf League and followed UConn basketball with a passion.

Along with his wife, Scotty is survived by his two children, Robert Cameron and his wife, Pamela and Nancy Malick and her husband, David and two grandsons, Daniel Malick and his wife Deidre and Connor Malick and his fiancée, Vianca Diaz.  He is also leaves four step grandchildren, Richard Atkinson and his wife, Sandy of Westbrook, Penni Williams of Nashville, Shawn Atkinson and his wife, Alyssa of Ivoryton and Aaron Atkinson; seven step great grandchildren, McKenna and Richard Atkinson, Haley and Hannah Williams, Patrick and Paige Atkinson and Cameron Atkinson, as well as a nephew and niece, Edwin Markham and his wife, Cindy of Florida and Debra Markham of Winston-Salem, NC and four great nephews and several cousins.

Besides his parents, Scotty was predeceased by his sister, Mary W. Cameron.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Aging Care, LLC of Glastonbury and Toufika Manan for their care during the final year of Scotty’s life.   Thanks also to the staff at Portland Care and Rehabilitation Centre for their caring concern during the final days of Scotty’s life.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 11:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
