In the arms of her loving family, Ann Rizza, 104, of Middletown, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband Samuel Rizza. It is with deep sadness that we witness the ascension of our beloved matriarch into heaven—but we are carried by a deeper gratitude that we were lucky enough to have been known and loved by her for so long.
On February 16, 1921, in Stratford, CT, Ann was born to her two loving parents Vito and Maria, where the family later moved to New Britain in the mid 1920s. She married Samuel Rizza in 1944 and thereafter they moved to Middletown where they started their family. She proceeded to live for the next 84 years–where her effusive presence quickly made Ann the beating heart and soul of her community.
Ann is survived by her three devoted children, Maryann Piscitello and her husband James, Samuel Rizza and his wife Pamela-Anne, and Linda Peterson; by her grandchildren Jason Piscitello, Lana Piscitello, Dawn Miller, Erica Peterson and Devin Peterson; and by five great-grandchildren. The highlights of her elder years were replete with frequent visits by her family and friends, and weekly card playing with Irene Fojtik and Paula Eyberse.
Ann found immense joy in cooking, gardening, creating memories, and helping so many in need. Family & friends are invited to celebrate Ann’s life at calling hours–to be held at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street in Middletown on June 24th from 5-7 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Pius X Church on Wednesday, June 25th at 10:30 am. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain to immediately follow.
