It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andres L. Torres, a beloved Lance Corporal Marine veteran and dedicated community volunteer, who left us on May 28, 2024, at the age of 45. Andres departed far too early, leaving behind beautiful memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
Born on June 14, 1978, in Bogotá, Colombia, Andres was a proud Marine who served his country and community with dedication and compassion. He was known for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and love for life. A big goofball, Andres was always trying to make others laugh with his funny, silly jokes and dark sense of humor. He had a deep passion for music, especially the Dave Matthews Band, and he was also known for his love of karaoke, where he often impressed others with his singing skills. His remarkable ability to uplift others and hand out smiles made him beloved by many.
Despite the challenges he faced, Andres embraced a healthy lifestyle, enjoying activities like hiking and biking. He was especially proud of completing the Tough Ruck Boston Marathon in April 2024. Unfortunately, he suddenly and unexpectedly passed before he could fulfill all his dreams, including starting his new job at the VA hospital, where he was excited to help fellow veterans and begin a new chapter in his life.
Andres proudly served as a Sergeant at Arms officer of the Veterans of Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40, Marine Corps League (MCL) in Glastonbury. He supported veterans and participated in community outreach programs, including the "Toys for Tots" drive with the Marine Corps every Christmas. His selflessness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He is survived by his grandmother, Balbina Turmeque; his mother, Marleny Turmeque; and his siblings: Jose Roberto, Ivette, Maritza, Liliana, Ceila, Héctor, Gabriel, and Gladys. He is also survived by his aunts Judith, Marina, and Isabel; his uncles Antonio and Philip; his close cousins Dylan, Cassandra, Andrew (godson), Yuliana, Yesenia, Mireya, Jonnathan, Edison, Adriana, Guillermo and Juancho and many more; and his nieces Sade and Erica and many more nieces and nephews.
Andres L. Torres will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit of kindness, bravery, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Andres Torres. Your legacy of love and service will forever be remembered.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, CT 06457, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A burial with military honors will follow at noon in the State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. A celebration of his life will take place in South Glastonbury from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the Marine Corps League Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40 at 980 Chestnut Hill Road.
Flowers can be sent to the funeral home, or donations can be made to the Marine Corps League Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40 at 980 Chestnut Hill Road, South Glastonbury, CT 06033, reflecting Andres's enduring commitment to service and community.
In the spirit of Andres's joy for life, we share lyrics from his favorite band, Dave Matthews Band:
"Celebrate we will, because life is short but sweet for certain."
