Allan R. Nelson of Covenant Living of Cromwell passed away on July 2, 2026. Mr. Nelson was born in Portland, CT, on December 18, 1932. He was predeceased by his parents F. William Nelson and Frances Petrea (Nielsen) Nelson, brother William Nelson and special friend Ellen Arendt. He is survived by his cousins Debra Vitelli of Savannah, GA and daughter Kaitlyn Vitelli, Laura Pritchard of Auburn, WA and son Daniel Pritchard, Sandra Thulis of Bailey Island, Maine and husband Michael, their son Mark Couture and wife Melinda, and their children Maia and Miles, and their daughter Samantha Couture and husband Johnny Stone, and their children Eva and Ari. He is also survived by a niece Vivian Nelson and a nephew Fred Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was president of A. Nelson Associates and worked for many years in the Investment Department of CIGNA corporation. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Mr. Nelson spent many years working on social issues and their relation to investment policies. He spent many years as a commentator on the issue of apartheid in South Africa and made numerous trips there exploring the issue. He wrote extensively on the issue of apartheid and appeared on TV and investment forums both in the United States and in South Africa.

Mr. Nelson served on a number of Boards and organizations and served as: Chair of the Children's Home of Cromwell, Chair of Investor Responsibility Research Center in Washington DC, Chair of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America committee on proxies, President of the Namibia Support Fund, Member of the Board of Pensions Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Member of the Endowment Board of the Bethphage Foundation. Mr. Nelson was also an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, having served in several capacities, most recently as Minister of Music.

Mr. Nelson was widely known throughout the area as a tenor soloist. During his career, he served a number of churches and synagogues as soloist and organist and appeared in numerous concerts throughout the area.

He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and had studied voice for many years with Belle Julie Soudant at the Juilliard School in New York City as well as with Rhea Massicotte, Cantor Arthur Koret and Royal Dadmun.

Funeral services for Mr. Nelson will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 50 Court Street in Cromwell.  Family and friends may call before the service from 10:00 to 10:50 in the Chapel.  There will be a reception after the service at the church.  A burial will follow the reception in the Swedish Cemetery in Portland.
