Alicia Marie Kelly-Brown of Middletown, Connecticut went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 6, 2026. Alicia was born in Middletown to Andrew Kelly of Eufaula, AL and Dianne Bozeman Kelly, of Tampa, FL on August 27, 1973. Alicia was educated in her hometown at St John’s School and Mercy High School. She continued her education at Florida A&M University and later transferred to University of Connecticut. Alicia earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from UCONN in 1996. After earning her bachelors, Alicia immediately used her degree working as a nutritionist for Jenny Craig. Alicia, known by her family and close friends as Lisa, and by her colleagues as KB, had a kind heart which was blatantly evident throughout her career. She took on a summer position at Long Lane in the recreation department as a Summer Recreation Worker. Lisa quickly realized that working with youth was where her heart was. She left the world of nutrition and began her two-decade career working with troubled youth. Lisa often referred to the youth as her “babies.” After starting her career working for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) at Long Lane, Lisa easily fell in love with the opportunities her position afforded her; not the opportunities for herself, but the opportunities to be a positive influence on the youth with whom she worked. Lisa went on to work at Connecticut Juvenile Training School (CJTS), where she held the positions of Substitute Teacher and Instructional Assistant. She was later promoted to Correctional Transition Instructor. She even volunteered as a basketball coach. Lisa would often return to CJTS after work hours to support her students in their extracurricular activities. After the closing of CJTS, Lisa was transferred from DFC to the Department of Corrections (DOC) and began working at Mason Youth Institution (MYI) as a Correctional Transition Instructor. Lisa continued to support the youth in their extra curriculars after work hours. In 2025, Lisa was recognized for her dedication to her work and her students. She received high accolades and was awarded the Connecticut Association of Adult and Continuing Education Support Staff of The Year twice; once on the state level and later that year on the facility level at MYI. Lisa was also known by her social media handle, “Basketball Mom.” She loved basketball. Lisa, #32, played CYO basketball as a youth. #32 also played at Mercy High School. She went on to volunteer as a coach of Girls’ youth basketball through Middletown’s Prof Gallitto program. Lisa had a reputation for two things as a Prof Gallitto coach: running up and down the sideline in her stilettos and, more impressively, going undefeated. Lisa’s favorite job was being a mother. And she was an OUTSTANDING single mother. She was so very proud as a single mother to have raised three accomplished children, Alexis who earned her Bachelors at Morgan State University and Masters at George Washington University, Andrew who will graduate from Delaware State University this coming Spring, and Adison, who graduated from high school just a few months ago, and is now a student at Goodwin University. Lisa was deeply dedicated to her children, always making them her first priority. Lisa supported her children in all their endeavors whether she was sitting in the stands at their basketball games or driving to their universities to support their academic and extracurricular accolades. It was nothing for Lisa to take a day trip to Maryland or Delaware to support her children. She drove all three of her children up and down the east coast to play AAU basketball. She had a favorite child though and had no problem letting everyone know. Lisa’s Biewer Terrier, S’mores Eugene, was her favorite child. Lisa was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Joseph and Hazel Bozeman (Tampa, FL) and her paternal grandparents, Willie Kelly, Sr (Eufaula, AL), Charlie and Marie Anderson (Middletown, CT) and her cousin/brother, Michael “Pickle” Kelly (Middletown, CT). Lisa is survived by her daughter Alexis Brown (Harrison, NJ) her sons, Andrew Brown and Adison Brown (Middletown, CT.), her parents, Andrew and Dianne Kelly (Middletown, CT), her sister, Andrea Kelly (Middletown, CT), her paternal aunt, Patricia James (Middletown, CT), two special cousins, Kimberly Peterson (Middletown, CT) and Shannon “Hannah” Sturks (Plant City), and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16th at 11:00 am at Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown.
