Aleyamma Thazhampallath Obituary

Aleyamma Thazhampallath, 89, of Middletown, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on January 6, 2024. She lived every day praising her faithful Lord and professing His truths. Born in India on March 26, 1934, Aleyamma, a pastor’s daughter who was the youngest of three girls, was known to her extended family as “Podiamma.” She immigrated to the United States in 1972 with her then two young daughters and then had her son after joining her husband in Hartford, Connecticut, where he had immigrated four years earlier to pursue greater opportunities for their young family.

Prior to her arriving in Connecticut, Aleyamma, one of the original ‘working moms’ was a grade school teacher in Kerala, India. Once in the U.S., she primarily served her family as a self-less mother and homemaker for more than 25 years before working part-time at Bradlees Department Store for ten years. To this day Aleyamma is still remembered by the customers of the Middletown Bradlees for her kind service to them.

Beyond these contributions, Aleyamma is most known to her family for her demonstrated daily faith and prayer life and for the devoted care of her grandchildren. This was her most joyous role. She prayed for each by name every single day.

Aleyamma is predeceased by her parents, Pastor Abraham Velamparampil and her mother Aleyamma Velamparampil of India and her husband of 53 years George V. Thazhampallath of Middletown.

Aleyamma leaves two daughters, Sheena T. George and her husband James George of Middletown, Connecticut and Beena Thannickal and her husband Victor Thannickal of New Orleans, Louisiana, and her son Geen Thazhampallath and his wife Erin J. Thazhampallath of Middletown. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Leaya George and her husband Andrew Secola of Tampa, Florida, Dylan George, Noah, Joshua and Eli Thazhampallath all of Middletown, Connecticut, and Hana, Halle, and Luke Thannickal of New Orleans, Louisiana. Aleyamma also leaves numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family from across the country and world.

Family and friends may call on Friday, January 12th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a remembrance service at 6:30 p.m. at the Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown.

A Christian “home-going” service celebrating Aleyamma’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Cross Street AME Zion Church.
