Alexander Eugene Bartell

Alexander Eugene Bartell, 81, of Middletown, husband of Lamona (West) Bartell, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital.  Born in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Gerald and Addie Lou (Keith) Bartell.

Alexander lived in Middletown since 1967 and worked for the City of Middletown for twenty-two years.  He was a member of the House of God.  Alexander enjoyed travelling and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose family was his world.

Along with his wife, Alexander is survived by two sons, Tabu A. West of Middletown, and Lemont T. West (Sasha) of Windsor; three daughters, Angela West of Jacksonville, FL, Tomeca West and Tamu West, both of Middletown; a sister, Ivory Lewis of Middletown; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maxine Pope, Barbara Bartell and Ella Bartell; brother-in-law, Sammie Jenkins and a host of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, John Henry, James, Walter and Herman Bartell; sisters, Ella Mae Hyman and Eara Mae (Bartell) Jenkins and a sister-in-law, Susie Bartell.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28th at 11:00 am at Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown.  A burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Family and friends may call Thursday morning before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
