Alberta (White) Scruggs, 103, of Middletown, wife of the late James Scruggs, passed away on March 4, 2021 just 6 days shy of her 104th birthday at Wadsworth Glen. Born in Lamar, SC, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Hattie (Kirkland) White.
Alberta lived in New Haven in the 1950’s until moving to Middletown in 1970. She was a member of Cross Street AME Zion Church where she was Mother of the Church and served on various boards. She was employed by Yale University for over ten years and also worked in catering for several years. Family and church were most important to Alberta.
Alberta is survived by her son, David K. Coleman of Middletown; a daughter, Diane J. Woodard of Middletown; two grandchildren, David A. Weston, Jr. and his wife Olga of Middletown and Dean J. Weston of Middletown; three great grandchildren, David A. Weston, III, Eliza Weston and Bria Weston and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown where masks and social distancing are required. Funeral service will be private. Burial will be held on Friday, March 12 at 10:00 am in Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden/New Haven.
