Albert Eugene Weston, Sr.
Celebrating a Life Well Lived
June 3, 1922 – March 3, 2026
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4: 7
Albert E. Weston, Sr., 103, of Cromwell, CT. Beloved husband of the late Eliza Lewis Weston, peacefully passed away on March 3, 2026. Albert was born on June 3, 1922, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to the late Lottie Weston and Henderson Sampson. He was raised by his grandmother, Lillie Cooper Weston, in Georgetown County, South Carolina, while his mother worked in Wilmington. Albert had many fond memories of working on the family farm in Hemingway and loved sharing those stories with his family.
However, Albert wanted greater opportunities. At the urging of his mother and grandmother, he followed several of his aunts and uncles to Connecticut in 1940. He returned to South Carolina in late 1941 and married the love of his life, Eliza Lewis Weston.
Dad loved to tell the story of their trip back to Connecticut on December 7, 1941. Their journey was delayed in New York City due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. As this event marked the United States’ entry into World War II, Albert would often recount the chaos and urgency he witnessed as soldiers were being deployed throughout the city.
Upon their arrival in Connecticut, Albert and Eliza joined Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church. They served God and the church faithfully for more than 50 years. Albert remained actively involved in the life of the church. He served on many boards and committees, including the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Willing Workers, Men’s Ministry, and as Pastor’s Steward under Rev. Hezekiah Williams and Rev. Douglas Lawrence.
He later became Trustee Emeritus under the leadership of Rev. Moses L. Harvill, whom he affectionately referred to as his nephew. Albert was also a proud member of George Crawford Lodge No. 21.
Before securing employment at American Cyanamid, Albert worked a variety of jobs, including at the Brickyard, Mohican Market, Wilcox & Crittenden, and Charles Parker. He also provided landscaping and driveway services in many of Middletown’s affluent neighborhoods.
After more than 30 years with American Cyanamid, Albert retired in 1985. Retirement did not slow him down. He remained active in his community, volunteering as a driver for Meals on Wheels, helping voters get to the polls on Election Day, and faithfully picking up his grandchildren from school and taking them to their many after-school activities. In his later years, he also enjoyed traveling extensively with his partner, the late Florence Coston.
Albert loved spending time with his family, especially his 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In his later years, his nephew, Woodrow “Blue” James, served as Albert’s driver, confidante, and friend. Blue called every day to give him the sports schedule. The duo referred to themselves as “G” and “Q.”
Albert loved everyone, and to him, every person in the world was simply a friend he had not yet met. He was an avid fan of UConn men’s and women’s basketball, NBA games, and MSNow (formerly MSNBC) to keep up with world events. Dad always liked to step out in style and remained quite debonair and fashionable throughout his life.
Albert leaves to celebrate his life his loving children: Andrea Weston, Len Piexotto, Al Weston, Jr., Robin (Tony) Bostick, Sonda Weston, and Dionne Weston Barnes; his 11 grandchildren: David (Olga) Weston Jr., Dean Weston, Ross (Nasha) Snipes, Brandon (Melanie) Piexotto, Samantha Johnson, Arianne Weston, Jason Piexotto, Alexander (Ruby) Weston, Britney (Ryan) Pagán, Maxwell (Kelly) Piexotto, and Devin Terry; and his great-grandchildren: Bria Weston, Eliza Weston, David Weston, III, Zoe Snipes, Jon Snipes, Sadie Williams, and Kaylani Marrero.
He also leaves his daughters-in-law and son-in-law, Mrs. Diane Woodard, Ms. Amanda Randolph, and Mr. John H. Snipes. His sisters-in-law: Lillie Lewis Weston, Dorothy Lewis, Shirley (Gene) Thompson, and Rachel Gordon; brothers-in-law: Rufus Lewis, Willie Lewis, Josephus (Jo-Ann) Lewis, Larry (Priscilla) Lewis, and Harry (Barbara) Lewis. He also leaves a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, some of whom considered him a second father, and an incredible group of caring, supportive church families and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Albert was predeceased by his children, David Weston, Sr., and Joyce Garrett; his two brothers, Robbie Gordon, Audro Weston, Alphonso Weston, Austin, and Thaddeus Sampson; and his two sisters, Albertine Weston and Roberta Sampson.
A heartfelt thank-you is extended to his daughter, Dionne Weston Barnes, and granddaughter, Samantha Johnson, who devoted themselves to caring for their grandfather and made it possible for him to remain in the comfort of his home. Their love, patience, and dedication meant the world to him and to our family.
And to everyone’s joy, Albert often ended his conversations with his favorite reminder:
“The Good Lord Loves You… and So Do I.”
