Alan Henry Webb, 92, of Portland, passed away on March 7, 2024. Born in Middletown on September 27, 1931, he was the son of Henry H. Webb and Esther (Grenman) Webb and lived most of his life in Higganum, CT.
Alan is survived by the love of his life and wife of sixty-six years, Veronika Riggs Webb; a granddaughter Patricia Aileen Osborne of Naugatuck, CT and his great grandchildren, Gavin Michael, Olivia Madison and Christopher Joseph Osborne of Naugatuck, CT. He was also very close/proud of his great nephew and his wife, Jeffrey and Linda Petras and their two sons, great grandnephews, Nathan and Seth, all of Kentucky.
Along with his parents, Alan was predeceased by his beloved son and daughter, Christopher Alan Webb and Kim-Jean Webb-Walsh.
Alan was a Korean War veteran serving in Korea with the 17th Bomb Wing of The 5th Air Force. Upon discharge, Alan took advantage of the Korean Veterans Education program and received his BS in 1959 from the newly formed University of Hartford. As the Controller, Alan worked for Middlesex Mutual Assurance in Middletown, CT for twenty years. He joined Travelers Insurance in 1980 and retired in 1995.
After retirement, he took a seasonal position as tour guide at Gillette’s Castle for three years. That ended when they closed for restoration. That was the most enjoyable time.
Alan belonged to Granite Lodge 119 in Haddam. He was Master many times. He also served at the Grand Lodge in Wallingford on several committees.
Alan was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity where he served as Treasurer and Head Usher.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20th at 11:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Interment will follow in Higganum Burr Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
