William John Svihovec, 91, of Middletown, husband of Peggy (Williams) Svihovec for seventy years, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Kolinsky) Svihovec.
Bill lived in Middletown and was a member of the First United Methodist Church all of his life. He graduated Middletown High School Class of 1943 and attended UConn. Bill was the past Master of Saint John Lodge #2 A.F. & A.M., member of B.P.O.E. #771 in Middletown, past Commodore of Baldwin Yacht Club, life member of American Legion Post #75, life member of Destroyer Escort Historical Foundation and past Commander of Cyrene Commandery #8.
Along with his wife, Bill is survived by two sons, William J. Svihovec, Jr. of Montreal, Canada and Robert G. Svihovec and his wife, Dr. Marilyn Svihovec of Colorado; two grandchildren Bryce R. Svihovec and his wife, Connie and Keith W. Svihovec and his wife, Carole; three great grandchildren, Preston, Ryder and Ezra Svihovec and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by two brothers, Edward C. Svihovec and Richard J. Svihovec and his sister, Marie Lombardi.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 24 at 11:00 am in Haddam Center Cemetery, Route 154, Haddam where full military honors will be accorded.
Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a Masonic service at 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
