Wayne Arthur Wright, 70, of Durham, beloved husband of Martha (Whelan) Wright for thirty-seven years, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. Born in Cuba, New York, he was the son of Esther (Hiscutt) Wright of Cuba, NY and the late D. William Wright.
Wayne was a veteran of the United States Navy and was proud of his service as a Seabee in Vietnam. He was a member and past Commander of the VFW of Durham Post #10169 and a member of the Durham Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc for many years. Wayne could fix literally anything, was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and loved his dogs and the outdoors especially fishing and hunting. Wayne loved making memories with his family.
Along with his wife and mother, Wayne is survived by two daughters, Hope Butler (Owen) of Cromwell and Megan Wright of Middletown; his brother, Todd Wright (Sheila) of Vermont; three sisters, Crystal Wright of New York, Paige Price (Bucky) of West Virginia and Marcheta Wright (Ulrike) of Florida along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00 pm at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will be on Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 am in the State Veterans’ Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening before the service from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to Durham Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O.
