Shirley Isabelle (Walden) Hills

Shirley Isabelle (Walden) Hills, 90, of Middletown, wife of the late William F. Hills, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 28, 2018.  Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Beatrice (Lampson) Walden.

Shirley lived in Middletown most of her life and was a member of South United Methodist Church on Wall Street in Middletown.  She worked for Stop & Shop for twenty-four years, was an avid gardener and baker, and enjoyed crocheting and reading.  Shirley’s family was most important to her and always came first.

Shirley is survived by her son, Benjamin E. Hills of Middletown; two daughters, Sandra Hudson of Colchester and Joanne Collins of Middletown; a sister Lucille Smith of Meriden; eleven grandchildren, Mark Perkins, William Perkins, Steven Hills, Matthew Hills, Heather Duteau, Becky Canfield, Renee Ortiz, Jason Canfield, Louis Frangione, Kyle Frangione, and Jesse Frangione; twenty-six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, Shirley was predeceased by a son William F. Hills, Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Perkins; five brothers, Francis, Harold, Lewis, Donald and James Walden; five sisters, Dorothy Dreher, Evonne Secki, Florence Gremini, Beverly Bailey and Hazel Bohannon and two grandchildren, Jennifer R. Hills and Raymond Hudson, Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday April 3, at 2:00 pm in Pine Grove Cemetery, 857 South Main Street, Middletown.  Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
