Richard Smith Obituary

Richard Arthur Smith, 77 of Portland, husband of Elizabeth (White) Smith of forty-two years, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.  Born in Barre, VT, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Maude I. (Bailey) Smith.

Dick or Smitty as he was also known, had been employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for over 25 years and EDAC for 12 years retiring in 1997. His family was very important to him, especially his grandson Chris Terio.  Dick had a passion for anything mechanical or automotive.  He would say if he couldn’t fix it then it wasn’t broken.  Dick was helpful and always there to help everyone.

Besides his wife, Dick is survived by three sons, Donald Denette, Jr. of Sherwood, AR, Robert Denette of Surprise, AZ and David Denette of East Haddam; five daughters, Robin Smith of Woodinville, WA, Ingrid Smith of Torrington Wendy Morgan of Moulton, AL, Heidi Geores of Middletown and Leslie Ficket of Mayberry, FL; one brother Kenneth Smith of North Granby; sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 17th at 10:00 am at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.  Interment will be private at the request of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s memory may be made to www.mikeroweworks.org.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.doolittlefuneralservice.com
