Marion (Schafer) Daling

Marion Clara (Schafer) Daling passed away on Wednesday April 4, 2018 at the age of 92. Marion was born in New York City in August 1925 to William and Mollie Silverman and went to school in New York. She married Marvin Daling in November 1943. After the birth of her two sons, Michael and Charles, Marion was a stay at home mother. After raising her sons, she worked as a teacher's aide in the New York Public School system. When Michael started college, she made the decision to also start college and attended the City University of New York where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was always interested in art and studied art in graduate school. Although she never earned an advanced degree art was always a large part of her life. She produced many works in oil, ink and stained glass. Many still adorn the homes of family members to this day. She lived in both West Virginia and Reno, Nevada until both she and husband, Marvin moved back to the east coast to be with family in 1991.

Marion is survived by her son Michael, wife Eileen, son Charles, wife Tina and 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Bouchard (Bruce), William Daling (Patty), Martin Daling (Kimberly), Danielle Heinmann (Keith) and 8 great grandchildren, Alexis, Emma, and David Daling, Joseph and Daniel Bouchard, Taylor and Karli Heinmann and Alexander Daling.

 Marion was predeceased by her husband Marvin and sister, Esther.

Funeral services will be at Adath Israel Synagogue, 8 Broad Street, Middletown on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at noon with Rabbi Seth Haaz officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Donations in Marion's memory may be made to Congregation Adath Israel Chevra Kadisha Fund and American Diabetes Assn.

Although the end of Passover officially nullifies the formal practice of Shiva, we will still gather to support Michael and his family by visiting them at 206 Prospect Street in Middletown on Sunday and Monday any time after 2:00 pm and gathering for an evening minyan at 7:30pm.
