Marie Peterson Anderson was born on Saturday, June 3, 1933 and passed on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Born in Eufaula, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Minnie (Lashley) Peterson. Marie was educated through the Eufaula Public School system. While in Eufaula, Marie was a faithful member of Thankful Baptist. While raising her three children, Marie worked at the Veneer Mill for several years.
In 1967 Marie relocated to Middletown, CT, where she took a job at Pratt & Whitney. She met the love of her life, Charlie Anderson, while working at Pratt & Whitney. In 1996, Marie retired from Pratt & Whitney after a successful 29-year run. She immediately took on her most fulfilling role as Big Momma. Marie went into full swing as a primary care giver for her new born great-granddaughter.
For over 40 years, Marie was a devoted member of Zion First Baptist Church, where she served on the Shepherd’s Ministry and the Youth Ministry. She served in the capacity of Assistant Treasurer for both ministries.
Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie, brother Robert Peterson, sister Mildred Stanford, and grandson Michael Kelly. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Willie Kelly, Jr. (Dianne), and Andrew Kelly (Dianne); one daughter, Patricia Kelly James; two granddaughters, Andrea Kelly, and Alicia Kelly-Brown; one grandson, Cedric Kelly; six great -grandchildren, Alexis Brown, Andrew Brown, Adison Brown, Darnell Kelly, Tatianna Tavarez, and Jasmine Kelly; four brothers, Jessie Lee Peterson (Corrine), Mose Peterson (Mary), Thomas Peterson (Lanell), and Joseph Peterson; a special cousin Jesse Ricks; a special niece Kimberly Peterson; two very best friends, Ruby Brunson and Lois White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life and Home Going Service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown. Burial will follow in the State Veterans’ Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the church.
