Douglas K. Harmon, of Durham, CT, passed away on December 17, 2018. Born on July 8, 1929 in Torrington, CT, he was the son of Charles F. and Antoinette Coache Harmon. He grew up on farms in Goshen, CT and Middletown, CT, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. He worked on the family dairy farm in Middletown, CT. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. He was employed by Pratt and Whitney in Middletown, CT for 30 years and later worked at Quality Auto Parts in Middletown, CT. He was a volunteer firefighter in Westfield, CT, a trustee of the Durham Volunteer Fire Department, and a volunteer at the Durham Fair. He was a member of the United Churches of Durham. A quiet family man, he relished time grilling, and working in his yard and garden.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Chapman Harmon, daughter Susan A. (Mark), son, Charles W. (Katie), and grandchildren Robert, Ella, Jason, and Samuel. The fourth of eleven children, he was the brother of Paul, James, Sidney, late Charles, late Donald, Joyce, Carolyn, Denise, late Nancy, and late Muriel.
The family is grateful for loving care provided by Ishaq Addy, Bryant Frieson, and Bismark Addo.
Calling hours will be held at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown, CT on Thursday, December 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the United Churches of Durham, 228 Main Street, Durham on Friday, December 21, at 11:00 AM. Burial at Mica Hill Cemetery, Durham, CT, will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Durham Ambulance Corps, at 205 Main Street, P.O.
