Donna Jean (Holmes) Slater

Donna Jean (Holmes) Slater, 80, of Durham, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden.  Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Emelinn (Peterson) Holmes.

Donna lived in Durham since 1961 and was a former member of United Churches of Durham. She was employed at Radiologic Associates of Middletown for twenty-nine years.  Donna was part of the Coginchaug Fife & Drum Corp where she serviced as the business manager and marched as Mrs. Claus in the Old Saybrook parade.  Donna enjoyed sharing two experiences; one was that she was on the Steve Harvey show where she was honored for her kindness to others and the second one was, she had a cup of coffee and a conversation with Michael Jackson while waiting for her flight. 

Donna loved to cook, dance, and sing.  She was a loving, caring, free spirit who was always there for anyone who needed her and had a special gift of making you feel special.

Donna is survived by three sons, Scott R. Slater of Durham, Robert V. Slater, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Derby, VT and Richard W. Slater of Canaan, VT; a daughter, Karen J. Mokoski and her husband, Mark of Higganum; her beloved ex-husband, Robert V. Slater, Sr. of Durham; five grandchildren, Jillian Agnew, Ryan S. Slater, Amy M. Slater, Lauren M. Mokoski and Nickolas R. Pagani; two great grandchildren, Zoey J. Agnew and Quinn Agnew; her sister-in-law, Judy Holmes of Swanzey, NH and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Along with her parents, Donna was predeceased by her beloved brother, Richard L. Holmes.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
