D. Elaine Garrett Obituary

D. Elaine Garrett passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday evening, June 18, 2018. She was born in Cambridge, MA, and lived her early years in Somerville, MA with her mother and three brothers. She met her husband, Rex Garrett, at a USO dance in Boston in 1946 and they married in 1948 while he was still in the Navy. Several years later, they moved to Hartford, CT, and two years after that they moved to Middletown, CT, where they lived for many years and raised their three children: Susan, Scott, and Jane. Elaine enjoyed working as a bookkeeper at Bunce’s Department Store in Middletown and later as a bookkeeper at The Children’s Home of Cromwell. She enjoyed her bi-weekly Bridge Club and Red Hat Society. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Middletown and was active in the various social groups within the church. Elaine loved to travel and one of her favorite spots was the Pennsylvania Dutch area in Lancaster, PA. Her favorite past time was spending time with her beloved granddaughters: Jennifer, Jill, Megan, and Danielle. Elaine also adored her cherished cat Harry. After her husband Rex died in 1993, Elaine continued to live in Middletown until she moved in 2013 into a nursing home in Groton, CT to be closer to Jane and Danielle, who live in Rhode Island. We will dearly miss her feisty spirit, her giving nature, and her great love of her family.

Elaine is survived by one son, Jay Scott Garrett of Aurora, CO; two daughters, Susan G. Terbush and her husband, Chuck of Lutz, FL, Jane G. King of East Greenwich, RI; and three granddaughters, Jill K. Tomasetti and her significant other, Joe Burgess, Megan E. Tomasetti and Danielle K. King.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jennifer E. Tomasetti; son-in-law, George E. King; and three brothers, Carleton W. Eade, Allyn W. Eade and Paul A. Eade.
