Harry McIntyre, Jr. Obituary

Harry McIntyre Jr., 82, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of April 11, 2024, with his family by his bedside. Harry was born on July 31, 1941, in Middletown, CT. He was the only child of Harry P. McIntyre and Mary E. (Driscoll) McIntyre of Cromwell.

Harry graduated from Cromwell High School in 1959 and studied engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1963. He would later earn his masters degree from Adelphi University in Garden City, Long Island, NY. While in college at WPI, he met Dilys Brumby. They married in 1964 and would spend the next 60 years together. Together, they had three children.

Harry began his engineering career at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. with projects including the Apollo lunar module and noted that his “fingerprints are on the moon”. Later, he worked for Gerber Scientific. Finally, after many years as a systems analyst for Xerox Corp. he retired.

Having grown up on the family farm, Harry remained a ‘gentleman farmer’ throughout his career. Along with his wife and children, he grew strawberries and raised small farm animals for many years. Later, he built greenhouses and grew bedding plants and vegetables that were sold at the farm.

During his retirement he and Dilys enjoyed time with their children, grandsons and faithful dog, Duffy, He also enjoyed bowling leagues, bingo at the senior center, and camping in East Hampton during the summertime and winters in Florida.

Predeceased by his parents, Harry is survived by his loving wife Dilys, sons Kenneth McIntyre and Robert McIntyre, daughter and son-in-law Rachel and Peter Hanson, and grandsons Camden Hanson and Riley Hanson.

The McIntyre and Hanson families would like to thank all the members at Middlesex Hospital Palliative Care for their kindness and care for Harry and his family during his final days.
