Obituary for William Alden Day

William Alden Day, 84, of Westerly, RI, passed away on October 28, 2017 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. Born in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Edith Grace (Clark) Day and the late Harvey B. Day.

Known as Bill to his family and friends, he retired from the Perkin-Elmer Corporation in Norwalk, CT after over twenty-five years of service. During this time, he was active in The Norwalk Management Club and the Norwalk Management Association, which is part of the total Adult Outreach program of the YMCA. Bill was president of the Association from 1984 to 1986.

Bill was a veteran serving four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War part of which was served in Okinawa.

Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Christine E. (Stietzel) Day; two nieces, Debbie A. Day and Diane E. Day; a nephew, John M. Day; his sister-in-law, Linnea K. (Stietzel) Holz; his brother-in-law, Ron Stietzel; his sister-in-law, Joan (Dombroski) Stietzel and their children whom he loved as his own family. He is also survived by two great nephews and many cousins.

Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, John Harvey Day.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will follow in Indian Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Bill was engaged in many activities of Dunn’s Corners Church.
