Obituary for Laura Petrella DiNino

Laura (Petrella) DiNino, 90, our beloved mother and grandmother died on February 7, 2018. She was born in Pratola Peligna, province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo Italy and moved to CT in 1958. ‘Mimi’ as she was affectionately called, loved adventures, loved exploring new locations from the CT shoreline, down the east coast and stretching westward to the California coast. She loved her family, loved being by the sea, or hiking up a mountain in addition to boat rides on lakes and rivers. She had a green thumb and she could grow anything from vegetables to her beautiful rose bushes, always sharing them with others. She found comfort in cooking and enjoyed not only preparing her special dishes for everyone to enjoy but passing on this love to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Luciana Tornetto and her husband Joe of Dowington, PA; Cosetta Garon and her husband Rick of Sturbridge, MA; Luisa Jones and her husband Barry of Middletown, CT; Anna Roesner and her husband Mark of Brookdale, CA. She loved being ‘Grandma’ or ‘Mimi’ to her many grandchildren: Robert DiNino of Waterbury, CT; Christopher DiNino and his partner Jacqueline Trinkley of Waterbury, CT; Justin DiNino and his partner Andria Hoffman of Tarrytown, NY, Emily Hillard and her husband Jay of Augusta, GA; Kyle Buettner and his wife Brandi of Whiteplains, MD; Lisa Tornetta of Philadelphia, PA; Jessica Roesner of Durango, CO; Isaiah Chamis, Adam Chamis and Nicholas Chamis of Middletown, CT; and her great grandchildren, Jocelyn DiNino and Jake DiNino of Waterbury, CT. She also is loved by her many nephews and nieces. Mom also had a special place in her heart for her dear friend, Wanda Gorecka, who we know will miss her very much.

She was predeceased by her son Robert DiNino and her daughter Marisa LeSage as well as her sisters, Maria Silvestri, Assunta DiPietro, Enia Puglielli, and her brother Luigi ‘ Gino’ Petrella.

Life is precious and should be celebrated. Because Mom/Mimi loved the sea so much, a memorial service will be held at Waters Edge Resort, Westbrook on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. There will be no calling hours. Flowers can be sent to Water’s Edge Resort in her name, or please make a donation to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 06032.
