Obituary for John "Mike" Michael Fleming

John Michael “Mike” Fleming, beloved husband of Rosemary (Galligan) Fleming for fifty-eight years, died November 26, 2017 after a long illness. Mike was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on June 13, 1934 and was eighty-three years old. He was the son of John J. Fleming and Marie (Carey) Fleming. He grew up in New Jersey and lived there until moving to Middletown with Rosemary in 1966 to raise their five children. Mike was a Manufacturers’ Representative with his territory covering New England. Rosemary accompanied Mike on these multiple sales calls throughout his career.

Mike was a veteran of eight years in the Naval Reserve, spending two years active duty in Newfoundland. He was a communicant of Saint Pius X Church in Middletown for fifty-one years, a member of the choir, and taught CCD in the early years. Mike was a permanent 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council #3 and had been honored as “Irishman of the Year”.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rosemary and his five children, whom his life centered around, Sharon Fleming of Essex, CT, Jack and his wife, Leslie of Kennebunk, ME, Cathy Cowan and her husband, Peter of Concord, NH, Seana Fleming of Westbrook, CT and Michael and his wife, Jennifer of Phippsburg, ME. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Justin and his wife, Sara, Devon Hardy, Kiely Gioello, Sienna and Lola Fleming, and Finn Fleming and great grandson, Ryan Hardy and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Mike was predeceased by three sisters, Jackie Berchen, Joan Morit and Kathleen Pennington.

The Fleming family would like to express their immense appreciation for the care given to their father over these past years to Drs. Robert Fales and Joseph Longhitano in Middletown and Drs. Joseph Radojevic and Jason Gluck, the whole CHF Infusion Center Department at Hartford Hospital and the staff of Middlesex Visiting Nurses, especially Tom Reynolds.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7th at 10:00 am at Saint Pius X Church, 310 Westfield Street, Middletown. Burial will follow in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 5: 00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center Fund c/o Hartford Hospital, 80 Seymour Street, Hartford, CT 06102.
