Obituary for John Arnold Payne, Jr.

John Arnold Payne, Jr., 82, of Middletown, husband of Edith (Waldner) Payne for fifty-two years, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Apple Rehab in Middletown. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late John and Vincenza (Esposito) Payne.

John grew up in East Haven and Durham, and was a 1953 graduate of Durham High School. He moved to Middletown in 1964. John was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Balduck and was very proud of his military service.

John loved playing horseshoes, attending family picnics and his nephew’s baseball games and faithfully following the NY Giants. In his later years, he also enjoyed spending time on his computer.

Along with his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Diana Payne and her partner, Thomas Dyer of Middletown; his sister, Margaret S. Payne of Durham and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Raider and the staff of Apple Rehab for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 30 at 2:00 pm in the State Veterans’ Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.

Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
